We develop evidence-based technical knowledge and best practices for the comprehensive approach to violence prevention and response.
We provide psychosocial and mental health support to individuals, families, and communities facing the risk or occurrence of violence against children and women.

What We Do
We empower women, children, and adolescents to overcome gender-based violence by strengthening capacities and promoting protection and justice policies at local and international levels.
We seek to strengthen the capacity of women, children, and adolescents to face challenges and their own realities, as well as to mitigate risks, prevent, respond to, and overcome gender-based violence. We promote their empowerment, autonomy, and their skills to prevent and mitigate risks.
We provide technical, organizational, and psychosocial support to women-led social organizations so they can increase their capacity for influence and the reach of their efforts for the benefit of their families and communities where they operate.
We are committed to strengthening the capacities of public and private actors involved in the care and response to victims of gender-based violence. We encourage and support local and national governments in fulfilling their obligations regarding the protection, justice, and health of women, girls, boys, and adolescents.
We develop an international technical advocacy agenda in high-impact settings and with key stakeholders to identify and promote solutions and pathways to address gender-based violence against women, children, and adolescents.
We focus on areas such as violence prevention, support for survivors, public awareness, and training for professionals and key stakeholders—both public and private—in the fields of healthcare, protection, and justice, as well as the prevention of gender-based violence. We work to promote policies grounded in the rights of women, children, and adolescents, particularly the right to a life free from violence.
Our Experience
In partnership with national and international organizations and funding allies, we have reached a large part of Colombia’s territory and achieved significant progress in:
GENFAMI has provided sexual and reproductive health services and guidance to more than 3,100 women and has engaged nearly 200 men in psychosocial processes aimed at preventing gender-based violence (GBV). Through interventions focused on children, adolescents, and women—especially in cases of sexual violence— the organization has reached 88% of Colombia’s departments.
Allies
Our allies are entities with whom we have collaborated through partnerships, agreements, and networks, with the aim of promoting social and cultural transformation in favor of the right to a life free from violence. These entities include public and private institutions, cooperation agencies, civil society organizations, research centers, and academics who are recognized for their work in combating gender-based violence against children, adolescents, and women, as well as in the prevention and addressing of mental health and psychosocial well-being issues.
Our most valued partnerships include, in particular, peer groups, community-based social organizations, and local and national organizations led by women. Since its inception in 2009, Genfami has sought to integrate key issues in the fight against gender-based violence into spaces for reflection and discussion, and especially into the main networks and platforms of professionals and human rights defenders in the country and throughout Latin America.
Collaboration with these allies has demonstrated the strategic value of networking to increase our influence, generate knowledge, and strengthen the quality of our processes and services through the exchange of experiences and expertise.
- Genfami leads the CAFI project in Colombia, which is promoting partnership and networking with Women-Led Organizations (WLOs) operating in humanitarian emergency contexts. The project aims to boost their corporate, technical, and advocacy capacity in order to foster the prevention, risk mitigation, and response to gender-based violence.
- Genfami has led and established other advocacy and coordination bodies. Among other roles, it represents social organizations on the National Intersectoral Committee for the Prevention of and Assistance to Victims of Gender-Based Violence. It is also a member of the Bogotá District Council for Comprehensive Care for Victims of Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents (ESCNNA), and serves as an advisory body to the Bogotá District Council on Social Policy.
- Genfami participates in the Inter-Agency Group on Gender-Based Violence in Colombia, as well as in the Global Action Group on Psychology and Gender-Based Violence, which, among other things, was highly active in providing information and guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Join the Prevention of Violence in Latin America and the Caribbean group. This group is led by Genfami along with the Interamerican Society of Psychology (SIP), the Latin American Federation of Psychotherapy (Flapsi), and the Colombian College of Psychologists (Colpsic).
- In its efforts to combat gender-based violence, Genfami has partnered with international organizations such as the International Bureau for Children’s Rights (IBCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Genfami is part of the international Girls Not Brides coalition, which works to end child marriage so that girls can reach their full potential.

National Reach
Our projects cover a large part of the country. By 2024, we are focused on addressing the needs of vulnerable populations—including women, adolescents, and children—in the departments of Arauca and Nariño, which border Venezuela and Ecuador.
